Present Continuous Tense
l. Definition:
Present continuous tense speaks about at present activities.
Examples:
- I am writing an article.
- You are reading the article
ll. Where we want to use Present Continuous Tense?
a) To express at present action which is going on at the time of speaking
Examples:
- I am speaking
- He is writing homework
- She is sleeping
b) To express the action takes place present but not at the time of speaking rather than the process of the action is going on.
Examples:
- Raji is preparing for the project for her PhD
- He is doing M.A in English
- I'm learning driving
c)To express an action which is very nearly to the future
Examples:
- We are leaving for Chennai tomorrow
- Today evening, we are eating popcorn
- The girls are going to the park in the evening
lll. Structure:
Verb + ing
a) Affirmative statement:
In the Affirmative statement, after subject, we have to place the helping verb and then main verb + ing form.
Examples:
He is walking with his friends
She is drawing
He is helping the old men.
b) Negative statement:
In a negative statement, in between the helping verb and main verb +ing, we have to place not.
Examples:
He is not loving the games
The girl is not speaking with her friends
The boy is not eating properly
c) Interrogative sentence:
We should place the helping verb before the subject and after the subject, we have to place the main verb+ing.
Examples:
Is the boy is sleeping?
Are they going to the mall?
Is the girl walking properly?
