Introduction:
The road not taken was written by Robert Frost. He was one of the best poets of his period. His writings skill was extraordinary. The main theme of the poem
Decision making and the importance of decision making is the main theme of this poem. It is not an easy way. Because according to your decision only the life will change. Everyone in the world would cross this situation. This is what our poet also convey through this poem. He gives some advice to the reader on how to make decisions and what are all steps we want to take before making a decision.
Outline summary :
In the autumn season, the poet was standing Infront of the two diverged road. He cannot travel on both roads. So for a long time, he was standing and thinking about which road was suitable for him. Both roads were so nice to see. But he was in the situation to choose one road.
The first road was full of bushes and plants. And the second road was full of grassy. Both were very nice. The former was used by many people, but the latter was used by a very less number of people.
Both roads were laid equally. He preferred to select the second road because it was selected by very few people. So he wished to select the first road next time in his life. Next, he had a doubt, whether he could come back from the origin state. But the answer was no.
In the last stanza, after he succeeded in his life, he wished to tell the story to his friends that how he did select the road to reach his high destination. According to him, due to the selection of the second road which was used by a very less number of people, he would succeed in future.
In-depth-meaning of this poem:
The poet was in a situation to choose one decision to get rid of his problem. His life was so dull, looking like an autumn forest (leaves were fallen from the trees). He had two decisions in-front of him. He cannot choose both. So he wanted to select anyone. It was the major turning point in his life. So he was taking more time to think about which was suitable for him.
The former decision had taken by many people in the society. But the latter had chosen by a very less number of people. Both decisions were very nice to see but he was so conscious to take the decision. It was one of the important points in his life, so before taking a decision he was analysing both.
The poet was always thinking very different from others, so he finally chooses the second decision which had used by very few people. He thinks that he would take the first decision after some times. But he had a doubt if it was possible to come back to his original state. But the answer was no.
So finally he had a belief that the second decision would take him high. After that, he could tell the story to his followers that how he chose the second decision.
