Past Continuous Tense
Defnition :
Past continuous tense speaks about the action which was in process at a particular action in the past.
Structure:
Subject + be(was/ were)+ verb+ing
a)Affirmative Statement:
According to the subject, we have to place was/were after the subject and adding ing to the basic form of the verb
Example:

They were reading books in the class
b) Negative Statement:
According to the subject, we have to place was/were after that we have to place not in between the was/were and present participle (verb+ing)
Examples:
She was not reading the newspaper
They were not speaking to each other
c)Interrogative sentence:
We have to place was/were before the subject and after the subject, we have to place the present participle form of the verb (verb+ing)
Examples:
Was he singing nicely?
Why was he sitting in the chair?
Where we want to use Past Continuous Tense:
a) We have to place Past Continuous Tense where the action was in process in the past.
Example:
He was singing very nice at the annual meet
She was sitting for a long time
b) To express an action that represents the action that happened at a particular time in the past
Examples:
She was chatting mantra between 1 P.M to 2 P.M
They were learning in this college from 2020 to 2021
c) It is used to express the gradual development of the action
Example:
My hopes were fading
It was getting darker and darker
